Sura 9
The Greatest Source of Peace
For me, there is one more important part of this conversation: God.
When we are hurting, we often look everywhere for peace. We look for it in other people, in relationships, in attention, in companionship, and in the reassurance that someone still wants us.
But sometimes, in our search for peace, we forget to turn to the very source of strength we believe can sustain us through our hardest moments.
God.
This is the time to pray. This is the time to seek strength from God, to reflect on your actions, and to ask for guidance in understanding what you should do next.
If you made a mistake, ask for the strength to acknowledge it and the wisdom to correct your behavior. If someone hurt you, seek the strength to heal without allowing their actions to turn you into someone who hurts others. If you are struggling to accept the end of a relationship, seek the patience to understand that not everything we lose is something we are meant to recover.
And if you do not know what comes next, allow yourself to admit that you do not know.
You do not have to solve every problem immediately. You do not have to force every relationship to work. You do not have to find a replacement for everything you have lost.
Sometimes, you need to become still enough to hear yourself think, humble enough to accept your mistakes, and patient enough to allow healing to take place.
Seeking peace through God does not mean that you should refuse help from people. We can pray and still seek advice. We can trust God and still speak to a wise friend or a qualified mental health professional when we need support.
Human support has its place, but no single person should be expected to carry the entire responsibility for our peace.
When we understand this, we can appreciate the people who help us without making them the foundation upon which our entire lives depend.
We can love people without making them our only reason to be happy.
And we can lose someone without believing that we have lost every possibility of happiness.
