Sura 3
When We Look for Someone Else to Put Us Back Together
But what happens when we keep trying to get someone back and fail?
What happens when we have apologized, begged, explained ourselves, and done everything we believe we can do, yet the person still refuses to return?
At some point, we may realize that the damage has spread much further than we imagined. We are exhausted, our minds are unsettled, and the domino effect continues.
So we begin looking for another source of peace.
This time, we are not necessarily looking for the person who hurt us. We are looking for someone who can help us feel whole again.
We want somewhere to cry. Somewhere to explain ourselves without being judged. Somewhere to receive a hug, a little kindness, a listening ear, and the reassurance that everything will eventually be okay.
We want empathy. We want comfort. We want someone who can remind us that life is still worth living, even when the part of it we valued most seems to have disappeared.
And there is nothing wrong with needing these things.
Human beings need one another. We need friendship, companionship, understanding, and emotional support. Sometimes, a conversation with a good friend can help us see what our pain has made difficult to see. Sometimes, being listened to is enough to help us breathe a little more easily.
The problem is not that we seek support from other people.
The problem begins when we confuse the comfort someone gives us with the love we have for that person.
